weekly training thread!
hey all. it is monday and that means it is time to check in and see how you are all doing with your workouts

I managed to hit the gym a few times last week and did the weight machine circuit twice, plus some time on the hamster wheel. plus there were several mile walks during a couple lunches apparently playing pinball can be a workout for your forearms (we have a pinball museum near where I live and we played for a couple hours)

I won't be around next week as I am travelling for the holiday, but I hope to be active (visiting AZ and I hope there is some hiking and the like)

what about you all????

I need to appologise ladies for missing last week and being late this week.

but it is time to check in and see what is happening with your workouts. where did you kick ass? where was it kicked? what are you looking to do this week?

it has been a couple of rough weeks for me lately. I've been having some intestinal issues and the doc ordered all the tests and they all came back normal except for a slightly elevated liver. the docs response to everything is 'take metimucile, eat a low fat diet and lose weight'

this of course has me fighting to avoid going down the rabbit hole of crash diets and over exercising.

I was just doing workouts at home the past few weeks as I wanted to avoid getting sick (had a performance last week), but I hit the gym on Saturday and Sunday. I am going to stick with doing the circuit weight machines at my gym for the time being as well as the hamster wheel and then reassess things after the new year.

how about you all? what are you doing? I need some inspiration!

hey all, it is monday and that means it is time to check in and see how you are doing. where did you kick ass? where was your ass kicked? what are you looking to do this week?

last week was OK - I learned that I need to stretch at least every other day. going more than 2 days is bad bad bad. so I did either yoga or pilates M-Th and then on sunday. granted I did some yard work saturday and sunday as well (raking and weeding. FUN!) plus I messed up my back stepping on something that wasn't supposed to be there and I am still paying for it.

so I need to be gentle with myself but that will be hard.

for those of us in the USA, it is thanksgiving this week. I am still going to be doing what I can stretching wise, plus I may try and hit the gym a bit too so I can get back into the swing of things.

I am thankful for the body I have and that is does a lot of what I want it to, and that it tries to teach me things as well (tho man I am stubborn)

hey guys! it is time to check in and see how you all did with your workouts. where were you awesome? where were you challenged? what do you want to do this week?

I brought everything down. My body has been really tired. so I did yoga and walking this week instead of swimming, lifting and hamstering. and I am really realizing how weak my core and back are, so tonight I added some pilates

anyone have some gentle exercises on strengthening the core? I have a old back injury

hey all! it is Monday and that means it is time to check in to see how you are doing with your workouts. where did you kick ass? where was it kicked? what are you looking to do this week?

last week I changed things up as I was checking out the local YMCA and I do very much like it. It has a pool which I took advantage of 4 says. actually Monday I rode my bike to the gym, swam, then to work, then back home which was rather a lot. I skipped Friday and Saturday and then Sunday I made the decision to really hunker down and do yoga every day as my hip was on fire Saturday night and Sunday. so Sunday I did a 3o minute practice with a youtube video and another 10 minute practice to help me wind down a bit.

skipped the gym this morning as the time change has wiped me OUT. I didn't think it could affect me that much but apparently it does as with my work schedule and other stuff I was just done done done. :( but I even with bad sleep I did a yoga session this morning and I want to try and do it every day to see how my body feels. even tho I am not really a fan of yoga, my body is...maybe my mind will catch up someday

so how about you all?

hey all! it is time to check in and see how are doing with your workouts. where did you kick ass? where was it kicked? what are you looking to do this week?

for me I made the decision to move gyms. I took a spin class on monday and the instructor just sucked and the bikes are rickety and well, I am bored there. I have a trial memebership with the local YMCA and my first visit was today. SO EXCITE! they have a pool! and I swam! and it was awesome.

last week I did time on the hamster wheel as well as yoga and a couple lifting sessions. basic and boring.

this week I am going to swim, and check out a spinning class or two. plus I road my bike to the gym and it wasn't awful and with a swim after the ride I felt fantastic! plus I got to soak in the jacuzzi which is a total win.

so how about you all?

Hey all! it is Monday and that means it is time to check in to see how we are all doing. where did you kick ass? what kicked your ass? what are you looking to do this week?

for me I was doing more of the same. Rode my bike to work one day, hit my gym where I lifted and did the hamster wheel 3 days (would have been 4 but the person who opened the gym was MIA), I went to Yoga once and then yesterday I went to a 90 minute spin class with my Sister in Law at her gym which was AWESOME

and it was a great spin class that had 8 instructors (it was a benefit for someone who works at the gym. I have seen the light how much of a difference the instructors make. I kicked a hell of a lot of ass and even smoked one of the instructors ass on a couple of the sprints.

so yea. fantastic

I didn't ride to work today as the winds picked up my crazy and I was not feeling like getting blown against cars or getting blown into the estuary. so I hit the gym and went to the spin class they had and it was such a let down. the normal teacher was out and there was a sub and the music sucked (who uses trance for spin class??) and rather than mix things up, it was 5 minutes of climbs, 3 minutes of flats, etc. but the music really killed it for me.

so what about you all?

Oops. I have been bad about this. sorry that it has been a few weeks since I last posted the weekly training thread. it's been busy (work, stuff, anniversary, etc)

so I hope you will forgive me

anywho - it is time to check in and see how you are all doing. what is exciting for you when you work out? how are you feeling? what is awesome?

awesome thing for me is that I have 5 over 5 years since my last cigarette *FLEX*

I feel a hell of a lot better and I find that I really like breathing

in regards to workouts, there has been hamster time and some weights but I really need to find a new gym. the fact that when I am wanting to use the dumbbells and I can't because the class that is going on has stolen all the 15's, I get very annoyed and I don't want to fuck up my form by going to heavy.

I have been riding my bike some, doing some yoga, a bit of lifting, and lots of walking around (we did a wee little staycation last week which was great)

also I did 70 push-ups done in 3 sets. I am pretty pleased about that.

but yea, going to see if I can check out a couple of the YMCA locations and see what they have to offer (POOL!!!!!)

Hey all! it is Monday and that means it is time to check in and see how you are doing. where are you kicking ass? where was that ass kicked? what are you looking to do this week?

last week I was pretty pleased with myself. there was spinning class, yoga, lifting weights, hamster wheel time and bike riding. I was actually active every day but Wednesday where I promptly got rewarded for sleeping in by pouring boiling coffee on my finger and causing a nasty blister :/

BUT, I did ride out on the new Bay Bridge out here :) the new bridge includes a bike/pedestrian path and that was awesome. the climb up is a 2-3 degree climb but you are hit with the wind so it is a pretty decent workout. I want to ride out there at least once a week as the views are amazing and will be even more spectacular when the take the old bridge down.

yesterday I was also reminded how exercise really calms me down. I was a bit off my rocker and went to Costco yesterday and it was inSANE. so many clueless people out there that I was really agitated. so I rode my bike to the gym, lifted many things and banged out 65 push-ups in 3 sets.

*flex*

that felt awesome.

so what about you all? tell me what you have been up to!

Hey all! sorry I am a day late with this, but it is time to check in and see how you all did with your workouts. where did you kick ass. where was it kicked? what are you looking to do this week?

I only went to the gym or rode my bike 4 days last week but that is ok as I did 6 days the week before. there was a bike ride after the insane 3 hour spinning class. then there was time on the hamster wheel as well as lifting. a core boot camp class and then another day on the hamster wheel with lifting. oh yea, there was a yoga class in there as well plus Sunday I did a short ride as well as a couple mile walk.

and I did 50 push-ups in 3 rounds! BOOYAH! granted, they were not on the floor but raised up by about 15 degrees as I was using the smith machine bar to do them as I seem to get better form

but still I am pretty pleased with myself

how about you all? tell me what you have been doing :)

hey all. once again it is Monday and that means it is time to check in to see how you did. where did you kick ass? where was it kicked? what are you planning to do this week?

for me the knee is a bit better for which I am thankful. the opposite ankle is a bit cranky still but I have hopes it will get better. I noticed that I can't do yoga very well if the ankle is cranky - doing any sort of warrior pose is hell.

but this week I kicked some serious ass. did yoga twice and the second one was really fantastic and I slept like the dead. I REALLY need to get some sort of routine where I do 20-30 minutes each night. it shouldn't be so hard, but it is.

I also did a strength session plus time on the hamster wheel, as well as rode to work a couple times. but where I seriously kicked ass? yesterday I did a 3 hour spin-a-thon to benefit a local women's shelter, the first hour was awesome. the second was hard. the third was killer. but I did it!

and today I had to ride into to work as the husband needed the car this morning. I could not average out more than 12 mph. the legs would just not go.

so that is me - what about you guys?

hey all! it is Monday and it is time to check in to see how you did last week with your workouts. where were you kicking ass? were was your ass kicked? what do you want to do this week?

last week was time on the hamster wheel, plus spinning class, yoga class and I rode to work twice. plus yesterday was wandering around the antiques fair for about 3.5 hours

this week I there will be more of the same. as it was the holiday I went to a later class at the gym - forrest yoga. not sure I am ready for it. the moves were a not what I am used to and I got a bit frustrated. doing a bridge pose where I tried to touch my heel to the finger was impossible and then my back started to hurt and then the tears started coming down and I had a hell of a time stopping them. part of it was release of something, but a lot of it was the fact that I am so fat I can't do the poses. I know it is a lot of BS, but still....

so yea. the head weasels are running rampant

hey all. it is monday and that means it is time to check in and see how you are all doing with your workouts.

where did you kick ass? where was it kicked? what are your goals this week?

I am very very frustrated. not gonna lie. my knee is not happy right now doing even body weight exercises. I went to the physical therapist and they told me to do modified body weight squats where I lean on one side to help strengthen the quads more, but now my knee hurts more

thankfully spinning and time on the hampster wheel don't seem to hurt it. so there was that last week. plus upper body strength. but man I am frustrated.

I promised myself that I am going to try and do an evening yoga class at least once a week at my gym. so that is on the agenda.

I also signed up for a 3 hour cycle-a-thon to help raise funds for a women's shelter on the 8th. that will be brutal. but awesome.

so how about you?

for me, I did spin class as well as rode to work. there was some lifting as well, plus hamster time.

this coming up week looks to be more of the same.

however my gym is hosting a spin-a-thon for 3 hours to help a local shelter in a couple weeks that I am thinking of doing

Hey all! it is Monday and that means it is time to check in and see how we are all doing with our workouts. where did you kick ass? where was it handed to you? what do you want to do this week?

so I have to lay off the weighted squats and lunges for the time being as my knee is cranky when I do. body weight seems OK so I am still doing those. but I pushed my doc to get PT going and he approved it. I now need to schedule it.

trying to also find shoes that work with my funky feet and ease the plantar fasciitis. but having long narrow feet with high insteps makes this problematic and I am getting tired of buying shoes that seem to work for a bit and then don't after I have worn them and then can't return them :(

but I was still fairly active. there was hamster time and some strength training and a mild boot camp. also did spin class, rode my bike to work plus went to a ride yesterday that should have been about 13+ miles or so, but I had the bad luck of hitting some glass that slashed my tire good so at mile 8 I had to hoof it to the bike shop which was about 4 miles away.

sigh

but I have a shiny new tire at least

hey all

it is that time again. time to check in and see how you did with your workouts. where did you kick ass? where was it kicked? what are you looking to do this week?

last week I rode to work and had a spinning class. some time on the elliptical and treadmill happened, plus some galavanting at the Antiques Fair yesterday and there was also lifting that was heavy on the lower body where I may have messed things up as right now my right knee is not happy with occasional aches and then it feels like it is shooting lasers down to my toes. not happy. not happy at all

I have not done any lifting since it started aching and it isn't getting better so I am being a grown-up and seeing the doc tomorrow.

so how about you all? what are you up to?

hey all! it is Monday and I remembered! woohoo! so to celebrate tell me about your workouts and training! where did you kick ass? where did you get it kicked? what do you want to do this week.

for me I workout out M-Th and hit it hard. there was lifting, a bootcamp class, time on the hamster wheel and some stretching. Girl doom hit me a week early so I took Friday off. Saturday there was a bit of a bike ride plus some time walking around (say 3-4 hours?) at a local fair.

this week I started off with working the upper body on weights this morning plus a spin class. there will be more weights this week plus a ride to work somewhere in there as well. need to see about fitting in more spin classes as if I can going to do the AIDS ride next year, I need to get my ass in gear

so what about you all? what are you up to?

Hi All! sorry for the delay on this again, but there were birthdays and shenanigans and hijinks so I hope you can forgive me :)

anyway it is Monday and that means it is time to check in and see how you are all doing with your workouts. where did you kick ass? where was it kicked? what do you want to do this next week?

for me it was more of the same...there was time on the hamster wheel, there was lifting of things, there was some bootcamp classes

and I am kind of bored.

part of it is my gym - it is a womens only gym and the only thing they have that goes over 60 pounds is a Smith Machine which is actually not the best thing and can cause more issues AND it is severely limited on what can be done (oh, there is a cable machine too that you can add weight too but it is often occupied)

and there are only a few classes during times that I can go

I am sure things will get shaken up

especially since I think I committed to doing the AIDS LifeCycle ride next year

I better get my 260 lb ass training, huh

ooops - not so weekly training thread
hello all! I want to apologize as it appears 3 weeks have gone by since I last did this. I blame the fact that life has been happening and the holiday as well. I will strive to do better as the summer goes on

anyway, let's get back on track

how have you guys been in regards to your workout? where have you kicked butt? where was that butt kicked? what are you looking to do?

it has been basically the same for me. time on the hamster wheel pretty much every time I hit the gym, lifting 3 times a week as well as some gardening (tomatoes are starting to finally come in! I got a late start so I am excited)

I would like to get to a dance class, but having a hard time that fits my schedule so the search is on. also, I need to get off my duff and do some yoga each night. it doesn't have to be a lot, but I needs to happen

so what about you all?

Some advice from my fellow fats, please?
So, I'm recovering from a terrible couple of years. Divorce, deep depression, yadda yadda. From November 2011 to this spring I did literally nothing physical beyond what I needed to to survive. So my conditioning is way down. I also have fibromyalgia, for what it's worth, and excess exertion can put me in bed.

Six weeks ago, I began walking 30 minutes most mornings on a treadmill at a pace of about two mph. (Vroom!) This has been awesome. I've been upping it very cautiously to about 2.4 or 2.5 mph, which was quite doable. I am always breaking a sweat at these paces, but I can also sing along to my iPod.

This week I said damn the torpedoes and went for a breakneck pace of three mph, which I still feel good at, mostly- I can still sing, not as easily, and I'm sweating like crazy- but my feet hurt and I realized I don't know how to push myself here. I was planning to start the C25K plan in two weeks, taking it slow and repeating weeks as necessary, but I'm wondering if I should stick with walking for now. I have found some interesting material on race walking. Running has always been my love, though.

I'm 300 lb right now due to medication. My body is accustomed to being 230 or so.

I'd really like some thoughts here. I know I'm capable of much more, but I really want to avoid burnout and injury.
